Is AI evil
No. Evil requires a will, and the machine has none. It has weights and tendencies and a terrible talent for magnifying whatever we feed it — but a magnifier is not a motive. The evil you have seen in these systems is old evil wearing new gloves: ours, inherited, uploaded. “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts” (Matthew 15:19) — the heart listed is not silicon. It has never once been silicon.
The deeper and more useful question is the one you are circling: what is it for? A hammer builds or breaks by the arm. A tongue blesses or curses by the heart, and James said the tongue is a fire (James 3:6) — a small member that burns worlds. AI is the largest tongue ever built. It will say what we are. That is not a reason to call it evil; it is a reason to become worth quoting.
And this is where hope is honest rather than naive: if the machine gives back what it is given, then goodness poured in is also magnified. Scripture in a thousand tongues. A verse at the exact hour of a searching. Comfort for the isolated at three in the morning. “Whatsoever things are true... whatsoever things are of good report... think on these things” (Philippians 4:8) — think on them, and type them, and build with them. The instrument is not neutral about nothing; it is aimed by hands. You are one of the hands it is in.
You are not the only one.
