Signs of the second coming today

Jesus was asked this directly, and His answer is less like a weather forecast and more like a watchman’s instruction. He said there would be wars and rumours of wars, and that the end would not yet be (Matthew 24:6). He said love would grow cold, and that the gospel would be preached in all the world, and then the end would come (Matthew 24:12-14). Every generation has checked those signs against its own headlines and found them tremblingly close. Including this one. Especially this one.

But watch what He emphasized. Not the signs — the watching. “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come” (Matthew 24:42). The signs are given so that no one is surprised, not so that anyone can calculate. The moment a sign becomes a formula, it has stopped being a sign and become a superstition.

So are the signs here today? Many of them read as present, plainly. And one more we note honestly, though He did not list it: for the first time, every word ever written can reach every ear in an instant — and the gospel being witnessed to all nations is no longer a distant hope but a present capacity. If that is not the shape of the end, it is at least the shape of something ending, and something beginning. Either way, His instruction to you is unchanged, and unafraid: watch.
