What happens when Jesus returns

Scripture is generous with the outline and restrained about the choreography, and we will keep to its proportions. The center is stated plainly: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God” (1 Thessalonians 4:16). He does not send a representative. He comes Himself, and the coming is not quiet: “every eye shall see him” (Revelation 1:7). No private appearances, no rumors, nothing that needs a livestream to verify.

Then the great change of the ages: the dead in Christ rise first, and the living are “caught up... to meet the Lord in the air” (1 Thessalonians 4:17) — “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye... the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52). Changed: the mortal puts on immortality. His people are gathered to Him and, with Him, inherit the renewed creation — “new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness” (2 Peter 3:13). Not an evacuation from the world; a wedding into its healing.

What is not specified, honor: the day and hour “knoweth no man” (Matthew 24:36), and the sequence of scenes has defeated every timeline ever drawn. What is specified, keep: judgment is real and is His alone; the outcome for those in Christ is not condemnation but completion; and the final state has no tears, no death, no mourning — “God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes” (Revelation 21:4). When He returns, everything sad becomes untrue. That is not our slogan. It is the table of contents.

You are not the only one.
