A question, answered

Did God give up on me

No. And we can say more than a feeling; we can say why. God’s giving up is not a mood He drifts into. Scripture records His people’s failures across centuries and His patience across the same centuries. “His compassions fail not. They are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23) — written, notice, in the ruins of Jerusalem, at the worst chapter of the worst generation. New every morning, said over wreckage. Your worst chapter does not outrank that one.

The feeling that God has given up usually has a date — something happened, or something accumulated — and the feeling is real, but it is reporting on distance, not on Him. Feelings measure the room’s temperature, not the Father’s posture. And the Father’s posture, in every scene where it is described, is the same: facing you. “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart” (Psalm 34:18) — nigh, near, close up. Broken hearts draw Him; they do not repel Him.

Consider also what your question assumes: that the relationship could be resumed. Even the question is evidence — you would not wonder about someone you truly believed had left. “Can a woman forget her sucking child... yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands” (Isaiah 49:15-16). Graven: carved, permanent, in the palms — the same palms that carry the scars. He has not given up on you. He is, if anything, closer than when you last felt it.
