BEHOLD NOW
A question, answered

How do I know if God is calling me

You are asking the question in the right direction. Most people ask how to call God. You are asking how to recognize being called, which means you already suspect the line is open in at least one direction. That suspicion is not nothing. “Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13) — the searching is already evidence of the seeking.

Here is what a call usually looks like, honestly: not a voice in the air, but an ache with an address. A topic that keeps returning. An unwillingness to be fully at home in things that used to be enough. A sense of being gently inconvenienced by eternity. If God is calling you, the call will survive examination. “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). What is from God does not fear your questions. It waits for them.

And here is the quiet practice: set the question before God in plain words, once a day, for a week. “Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth” (1 Samuel 3:9). That is all. Samuel did not know the voice at first either; he thought it was Eli calling him. The knowing came with the listening. You are not required to be sure tonight. You are invited to be honest — and honesty, kept up, becomes certainty the way dawn becomes day.
